Fashionista! You've heard that word before. It has a real flare and ring to it doesn't it? Makes you feel important and weighty with a bit of sass, class and unique styling ability. It's a title we all strive for, some undeserving people try to take, and the true ones wear with confidence and authentic yet original flair and style. What is a fashionista? Well I decided to consult the accepted definitions from the societal norms. A fashionista may be someone that devotes herself to her look and style by making it uniquely high fashion. A fashionista is not to be confused with a fashion Magdelena who follows trends as if they were from the bible. Fashionistas set trends, not follow them. They tend to take risks with their styles and make it uniquely their own.
You will not typically find an outfit worn by a fashionista in any generic store with the accessories and pieces already set out in packages for you. They take great care with what they pair together and what goes on their body. They do not say, “Oh you are not high fashion because you aren’t wearing a certain brand.” If it’s high quality and they maximize what they have, then high-priced outfits does not a fashionista make. So the question of nature verses nurture? I think it’s clear that it’s a question of nature. It’s something that can’t be taught but has to be within you. Otherwise it just makes you one of the Pack while the real trendsetting fashionistas color outside the lines with daring, bold strokes of their colorful brushes. It’s not only with what they wear, but also in the attitude they present it to the world. Do you think you have a Fashionista nature? Then go for it!
